About the Programme

Junk shops have a powerful hold on our imagination: when we explore their dusty corners we find merchandise loaded with other people’s stories, and are seduced by the idea that we are not merely shopping, but engaging in transformative transactions.

In this programme, cultural researcher Lisa Mullen pokes around among the bric-a-brac and broken chairs to examine the uncanny tales we tell each other about ghostly antiques, cursed relics and haunted knick-knacks.
